Story on our new blog against the cruiseship industry and government incompetence.

The new blog I am the photographer for, the South Brooklyn Post has a front page story on the cruiseship industry and how, when idling in the ports of Red Hook, Brooklyn, spew out emissions equal to 12,000 cars!  Please check it and pass it round. I am super proud of the piece because I feel it may bring attention to an underreported issue and actually exercising the power of journalism, something I don’t get to do as much as I would like.

The paper has just been up for about two weeks now and is an effort from me and a fellow Detroit Journalist Lisa Collins.

The best mix of video and photos as a piece..

I was lucky enough a couple weeks back to sit with the glitteri of the photo world for some drinks at a foto festival.  The person in charge of the photography at the NYT said that the piece Todd Heisler, who was sitting there as well, had just done on Early On-Set Alzheimers  in Columbia was the best she thinks has been done to date that combines video with photography.  The new Canon 5d takes super high quality video as well as huge sized still image files.  Two films at Cannes this year were shot with the camera.

The story is an important and incredibly shoot piece indeed.

Modern day romance?

I am at a cafe sorta close to my neighborhood for the first time (they don’t exist yet in my direct hood) doing some late night work as I was in my apt. all day and needed to get the hell out.  I choose this place (Abigail Cafe) as it was the second closest.  I was hesitant because it looked like a really nice place and is totally candle lite for dinner but its a cafe at lunch, free wifi, newspapers abound, etc.. and they said come in and totally work… anyway, I just looked up from my empty 8 person candelabra lit table to see one table of diners (two women) both on their iphones and then glanced down the way and saw a couple eating with tow laptops open with the backs touching, both eating while communing in their own worlds while sitting across from their table-mate. Is this Normal??  Not sure I have seen this before……..
